More Than A Dream – Writing Update #1

Heheh, yesterday was a doozy for some of us, wasn’t it? Show of hands if anyone else stayed up and started writing the moment the clock struck 12.

I stayed up way late with a cup of coffee (or two) and listened to my playlist as I pounded out 4,100 words until I couldn’t stay awake any longer at 3 (or 4 if you forgot to change your clock like I did) in the morning. I am really happy with that because my normal speed is 500 words an hour, if that, so I was ecstatic to see it had doubled! I wasn’t able to do much more writing yesterday, but I did get in another session bringing my total word count up to 5,186.

As for today… well… Life decided I shouldn’t have a writing session yet but I will double down tonight and make up for lost time.

And I’m sure you’re not here just to listen to me talk numbers, so now about my story.

Just in case anyone is new, I’m working on a genderbent Cinderella retelling. My main characters are Charm and Ellar.

I’m only a few chapters in and already Charm and Ellar have really thrown me for some loops and changed up some of the plot on me.

Yeah, my characters do that a lot.

I mentioned in a previous post that my plot was basically about Charm and Ellar at the three Balls, well, that’s still going to happen, but now it’s also so they can figure out a mysterious disappearance or possible murder of a character without alerting the suspect that they are on to them.

Fun times ahead, really fun times.

Here’s a snippit in farewell!

The girl stood and lifted the lamp. “Who are you?” She squinted at him as the light from the lamp flooded his face making him squint in return. She gasped and her hand suddenly dropped back down to her side. “No. Ellar? What’s happened to you?” She raised her free hand to touch his cheek but stopped herself. Shaking her head, she clenched her hand into a fist and pressed it to her heart. “What has that man done to you?”

He stared up into her face, her blue eyes flashing, furious, almost enraged, as the light danced upon her face. She knew him yet he still didn’t recognize her. “Wh-who are you? Really?”

Her gaze softened. A crooked smile twitched the corners of her lips. “You don’t recognize me.” She uttered a breathy laugh and shrugged. “Guess that means my disguise is working.” Lifting the edge of her cloak she rubbed her face down, removing dirt smudges and a layer of white powder, exposing a tanned complexion with a splay of freckles across her nose, a few splashed upon her cheeks. “It’s me, Ellar, your old friend Charm.

Yeah, apparently the two already know each other and are just now letting me in on that bit of information. This takes place very early in the story so I’m not worried about it being a spoiler.

So, how’s everyone else doing? Any surprising developments or plot twists? Are you running on caffeine yet?

Tell me in the comments! πŸ˜€

  1. YOU’RE DOING SO AMAZING!!!! *waves pompoms*

Oh man, isn’t it, erm, “great” when our characters decide to just throw random things at us? Lol. What ARE we going to do with these people? Buuut it definitely keeps writing from being boring. *grins*

And oh my goodness gracious, from that snippet it looks like your story is going EPICLY. That totally hooked me right away. The characters seem so funnn!!! Aaaahhhh! You must share more sometime. *puppy dog eyes* I need more of this goodness!

I do hope the rest of NaNo goes amazingly for you! We totally got this! *fistpump*

    1. THANK YOU!!!

Haha, yeah, writing is never boring when your characters decide to do their own thing. But, hey, cardboard can’t talk back, so it’s kind of a good sign when characters start showing initiative. XD

Oh my… BRB while I go die of happiness! 😭 Thank you SO much! I hope to share weekly updates with either a snippit or just a few favourite sentences. It’s how I’m cheating by posting each week and still keeping up with writing. ;D

I hope the same for you! ^_^ Yeah we do!!!!!! *whoop whoop*

  2. Well, this is fun. The characters already know each other. And a disappearance/possibly murder with a suspect? Sounds all very exciting and intriguing. (Hey, characters, keep on taking over. I love your work. *thumbs up*).

    1. Eeee!!! Thank you SO much! ❀

Yup, Charm and Ellar know each other already, apparently. And YES! Dealing with all that the disappearance/murder(?) entails is very exciting for me because even *I* don't know what happened. XD Hehe! Those two are quite the handful, I do not doubt they will take over yet again. But, hey, at least it keeps me on my toes and it's never dull! ^_^ (Charm and Ellar are so happy you love their work! ;D)

  3. Sorry, I know I’m a little late on your post. I. LOVE. YOUR. SNIPPET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a cool story idea! The character names are so perfect. πŸ™‚ I. NEED. MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Genius! πŸ™‚

I don’t know of any new things in my own story right now. For some reason my characters don’t want to talk to me right now. They haven’t said anything for the past two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!!!!!! Can you believe them? What did I do to cause them to ignore me? πŸ™‚

AAAAHHH!!! Thank you!!! <333 ^_^ Thank you so much!!!

Aww! Two weeks is a long time! You poor girl. I hope they start talking with you again real soon! Silent treatment is never fun. 😦 πŸ˜‰

  4. So, since I’m your sister, I get first eyes (besides mom) on this story right?!? RIGHT?!? πŸ˜‚
Seriously, I can’t wait until you finish it, I can already see this in movie form. Move over Ella Enchanted, there’s a new favorite movie coming! πŸ’›πŸ˜‰

  5. Oh my wordddddd!!! This book sounds so so good!!! And I just LOVE it when our characters decide to switch everything up and completely ruin the plot we’ve oh-so-delicately curated for them… Aha…..haha….. *distant sobbing*

AND DUDE!!!! 4,100 words on the first day of NaNo??? You, my dear, are an inspiration to me!! I wasn’t able to stay up late (or early?? XD) on the first since I worked the next morning, but oh my GOODNESS I love staying up super late to write!! Now that it’s New Year’s Eve and I have no social obligations for tomorrow, I miiiiight just try to stay up late and write a whole bunch tonight….perhaps… XD

    1. Ahhhhhh!!! Thank you so much! ^_^ Lolz! I knooow! *sobs with you* XP

Awww, thanks! Though getting that much in that short of time is a happy but rare occurrence. πŸ™‚ Staying up super late to write is DA BEST! B-) XD but, yes, having to go to work should probably make sleep the priority. πŸ˜‰ Oooh, (if you do it) I hope your writing session goes spectacularly!!! ^_^ *sends cup of coffee and platter of cookies*

      Happy New Year!!! ❀

      1. Honestly same. Once I managed to write 10,000 words in a single day. It was…..let’s just say I don’t think I’ll ever be able to manage it again, and I’m honestly okay with that. XD

OOOH. COOKIES!!!! Thank you very much!! *snitches cookies* Unfortunately I didn’t write very much, but I DID read 4 children’s books? So??? I think I can count that as a success. XD

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU, AS WELL!!! I hope your year is going magically so far!!!

        1. WOW! :O I have never managed to write that much in one day, so that’s awesome! But yeah, I can understand not wanting to it again. πŸ˜‰

Lol, YES! Count that as success! Reading refills the well of creativity, so you’re good. πŸ˜‰

It is, thank you!!! I hope the same for you! ❀
