Cinderellar and Princess Charming: Getting To Know You

In my last post I talked about my latest WIP (work-in-progress) More Than a Dream and introduced my two protagonists, Charmina and Elladar, aka Charm and Ellar. Today I’d like to share more about them via a retired Linkup called Beautiful People.

1) What is their full name and is there a story behind why they got it?

Charm — Crown Princess Charmina Florindaline Zephyra Leblanc. The story behind it is that her father was so sure she was going to be a boy that the only name he picked was Charmont. When a girl showed up instead, her mother named her Charmina as a compromise. Florindaline is a combination of her parents’ middle names, Florence – her father, Madaline – her mother. Zephyra is her maternal grandmother’s name.

Ellar — Duke Elladar Henri Knightley. His story is the opposite. His parents were sure they were having a girl and wanted to name the baby after his mother, Ellanor, so they named him Elladar instead. Henri was his father’s name.

2) How old are they, and where were they born?

Charm — Seventeen, she was born in the palace.

Ellar — Eighteen, he was born in his home, a manor house near the outskirts of the country.

3) Describe their physical appearance. (Bonus questions: 1. What is their race/nationality/ethnicity? 2. Do you have a picture of them? If so, include it!)

Charm — She has brown, curly hair, dark blue eyes like the deepest water, and her features are soft but well defined. She’s on the tall side, 5’8″, and due to her habit of horseback riding and fencing daily she is slender but sturdy. She is a human with fae ancestry, her nationality is Aurvalan, and her ethnicity is Aurvalan/Kamordan.

Ellar — He has straight, blond hair, light green eyes like oak leaves in spring, and his features are strong but his smile is soft and gentle. He is 6’2″ but even though he works hard to maintain the manor house, due to a poor diet and overworking he isn’t as strong and healthy as he could be. He is human with fae ancestry, his nationality is Aurvalan, and his ethnicity is Aurvalan/Zaronese.

4) Describe your character’s personality first in one word, and then elaborate with a few sentences.

Charm — Simmering. She has all these emotions and thoughts residing just beneath her cool exterior that she is close to boiling over. She has been told all her life where a princess’ place is and that she should not step out of line, thus she knows how to play the part, to conceal it and not let it show.

Ellar — Long-suffering. Every day he must bear the abuse and ridicule of his step-family while he does his best to remain kind and forgiving. He fights against bitterness and anger at his predicament and he prays for the day when he’ll be free.

5) What theme song(s) fit their personality and story arc?

Charm — Speechless from Live-action Aladdin, and Show Yourself from Frozen 2.

Ellar — Praise You In This Storm by Casting Crowns, The Next Right Thing from Frozen 2, and If You Want Me To by Ginny Owens.

6) Which one of the seven deadly sins describes your character?

Charm — Pride. She is rather proud of how well she keeps it together even if she wishes she didn’t have to, and it’s her pride that refuses to let others in and help her.

Ellar — Wrath. He doesn’t let it show or affect his actions, but he does struggle with anger and bitterness. Choosing to be kind doesn’t mean he doesn’t get angry at times, it just means he refuses to act on it.

7) If they were an element (fire, water, earth, air) which one would they be?

Charm — Definitely fire… or air. She’s passionate and has a free spirit that wants to soar so it’s a toss up between the two.

Ellar — He’s water… or earth. He is calm and dependable and it takes a lot to shake him, thus making it hard to choose for him as well.

8) What is their favorite word?

Charm — Freedom.

Ellar — Peace.

9) Who’s one person they really miss? (It could be someone who’s passed away, or someone they’re not close to anymore, or someone who’s moved away.)

Charm — Her mother, she passed away 6 months to 2 years ago (I’m still working out the timeline). She always encouraged Charm to forge her own path.

Ellar — He misses both his parents equally, but his mother passed away shortly after the queen so the pain of losing her is fresher.

10) What sights, sounds, and smells remind them of that person?

Charm — The whole palace reminds her of her mother, but their Garden is where her presence is most missed.

Ellar — Whenever he hears a piano or sees a freshly cut bouquet of wildflowers or smells vanilla he is reminded of her. He plays the piano in honour of her.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know Charm and Ellar a bit more! Did any of the answers surprise you or did it seem to suit them? Would you like another post about these two or would you like me to spotlight someone else that I haven’t talked about?

Tell me in the comments! 😀

  1. I love the history behind their names. It was kinda of like tipping your hat to the original genders of the characters.
Your choice of songs for them sound amazing. I need to go listen to them now. 🙂
I think all the answers suited them.
And I wouldn’t mind if you did another post of them or someone else. I’m happy to read about any characters!

  2. EEEEEEE!!!!! This was SO FUN getting a closer look at each of these characters. And I have to say, my heart totally goes out toward Ellar. He seems so broken and soft and I already love him! D’: ❤ And I love how Charm is so passionate. I can imagine they are QUITE the pair. Haha.

The history behind their names was GREAT. Poor things, having parents who thought they'd be the opposite gender. XD

I would ABSOLUTELY be on board on learning more about them. I looooove learning about everyone's characters. I so miss these Beautiful People linkups. They were GREAT. But thank goodness for the archives! 😀

    1. Thank you! ❤

Yeah, poor Ellar is my little baby cinnamon roll and I just feel so terrible for everything I'm putting my little boi through… XD He and Charm are in for a fun time. ;D I usually write guys who aren't afraid to start a fight if they don't like what's going on, so I'm loving Ellar's quiet strength and unfailing kindness. Not all strength is loud and boisterous.

😀 I wish I'd been blogging back when Beautiful People was around, but, yes, thank goodness for the archives! Now to go see which character would like to volunteer! XD

  3. Wow, this looks like such a clever spin on the classic “Cinderella!” I like how you switched the genders of Prince Charming and Cinderella–and came up with such interesting back stories for their names! This definitely sounds like a book I would pick up at a bookstore and buy!
